Can oral sex cause or aggravate yeast infections?

Q: My wife and I enjoy oral sex, but we are concerned that cunnilingus may cause or aggravate yeast infections in my wife. Is there any learning with respect to cunnilingus being a contributing factor to yeast infections?

A. There is no evidence that points to cunnilingus causing yeast infections. Moisture causes the problem, and not the kind or amount that comes from a person's mouth. This concern has been around for years, and people have heard that cunnilingus causes or aggravates yeast infections so much that they assume it must be true. But it's not. The warm, moist environment of the vagina makes women prone to yeast infections, not cunnilingus.
