The Real Accessibility Issue
(05/04/2004)

Hello, if you are reading this short bio you probably saw the "Real Accessibility Issue." As disabled persons we must put extra thought, effort, and ingenuity in everything we do. I have been disabled for thirty-three years.

I was born with Muscular Dystrophy. It is safe to say in some ways it is a miserable dissapointment. In other ways it is no problem and I just cruise right along. I somehow find a happy medium. I have many interests that keep me out of trouble. One interest I have is women and sexuality. Yeah, yeah same as every guy and gal. I know. As a fellow who is considered a quad and uses a wheelchair, sex has not always come easily.

I feel disabled people are seen as asexual and unable sexually. I love breaking down that stereotype. I e-mailed Juli Ashton the sweet and sexy adult entertainer. I asked her how as a disabled man I could enhance my sexuality and attract woman. She replied that most people don't know about people with disabilities. I agree and that's ok.

I get great satisfaction from the disability issues graphic because I feel it helps break down stereotypes. Media and film are also important tools to help us build ourselves socially in the eyes of society. The love scene in Coming Home helped shape the way I saw myself sexually as a young man. We can put a ramp on stairs, a lift on a van, it's not as easy to overcome social barriers. Maybe little by little, step by step, and by another turn of the wheel we can make a difference.
